Vox Humana Magazine

Documenting Our World One Voice at a Time

What Is Vox Humana Magazine?

Vox Humana Magazine is a digital journal with a mission to document our world one voice at a time.

VHM aims to foster unity of the world community by sharing the personal experiences of everyday people from across the globe. By connecting disparate communities, cultures, races, and creeds, VHM aspires to show that no matter how unique your corner of the planet is, common ground unites us all.

Instead of hiring professional writers and photographers, VHM is interested in the stories, photographs, and audio and video footage from the person on the street. VHM seeks to share unadulterated perspectives from folks like you and me, everyday people.

Vox Humana Magazine is therefore a publication for and by the people. So, enjoy your magazine.

Contributing to VHM

Vox Humana Magazine seeks stories, photographs, and audio and video "dispatches" from "correspondents" on what it’s like to be uniquely you in your own corner of the world. Your dispatches can cover just about any topic relative to your personal perspective. These dispatches can be all about you, or they can feature other fascinating or critical people, places, causes, or events in your local or extended community.

In addition, VHM seeks dispatches about your travel experiences. Tell us about a trip you are currently on, took recently, or took in the past—even decades ago—whether done for pleasure, business, humanitarian service, or adventure. Tell us about the sights, sounds, smells, flavors, colors, scenery, landmarks, and other significant details of your trip.

How to Contribute

Contributing is easy. Simply upload your correspondence via any of the appropriate modules on this site. Feel free to contribute fresh content or material you have previously published elsewhere.

Note: Please ensure that what you contribute is relevant to the spirit of fostering world community. It is also your responsibility to ensure that you own the content you contribute or that you have permission to contribute it; VHM accepts no responsibility for any member submitted content on this site. VHM reserves the right to remove any contribution or member at its own discretion.

Korea Revisited - Journal Entry One - June 1, 2000 - 4:55 a.m.

Editor's note: I am the child of a Korean mother and a Caucasian father. In my experience, to most Americans I look "Oriental" or "Chinese" or of some other heritage, such as Mexican or Native American; and to Koreans I look at least part Caucasian. So, no matter to whom, I look "different." The significance of my ethnic makeup and physical appearance will become evident in the narrative below. Also, I traveled to Korea alone a couple of days before my parents arrived… Continue

Human Rights in China

I am so proud to be going to the Olympic Games in Beijing next month as an Olympic Ambassador for Amnesty International.

As a former pro athlete, I'm eager to see awe-inspiring world-class athletes competing for gold at the Summer Games. Yet I can't help but find the luster of those five rings tarnished and feel conflicted about my upcoming trip to China.

Korea Revisited

During the Korean War, my mother and her family were forced to flee from Seoul all the way to the southern tip of the Korean peninsula to escape the Communist offensive. Only after the Americans sent in reinforcements and pushed the enemy back into the north could my mother—about 20 years old at the time—return to her home. What my mother found, among omnipresent ruins and charred corpses littering the roadside, was a pile of rubble where her home once stood. Except for the clothes on her back,… Continue
